This was one of the most pleasant surprises of our summer.  We decided to go on an adventure, and my husband wanted to go along, with the condition that we were home before supper so he could work in the evening.  We looked at our Minnesota Historical Society calendar and saw that they were having “living history” interpreters at the Lindbergh house, so we decided to make the two-hour trek and see what it was all about.

We arrived about 20 minutes before the next guided tour was to start and could look around the main building.  Here we could try to decide what supplies one would take on a trans-atlantic flight, or “fly” a replica of the Spirit of St. Louis, or watch film footage of Lindbergh’s flight, or view a movie about his life.  All too soon, it was time for our tour to begin, and we were guided around the Lindbergh home by interpreters playing Lindbergh’s mother and hired help.

The house with its porch and handmade ceramics, the car that Lindbergh as a young teenager drove to California, and the icebox in the kitchen were there for us to see, and outdoors the kids could help wash laundry and put it through the wringer before we moved to more “modern” times and learned about the WPA and CCC programs in Minnesota.

We went back to the visitors center to explore a little more, but unfortunately we had time constraints and couldn’t see all that we wanted to.  The kids would have enjoyed flying the plane once more, and my husband was very sad that we had to leave.

Had we known the museum would be so very interesting, plus the fact that there were some other spots in and near Little Falls that we would have liked to visit, we would have planned an entire day in the area.  This is a site we’ll definitely be returning to.
